I’ve complained about Facebook for years. Their policies are hypocritical and unfair. For years I have weighed the pros and cons and kept my FB pages up. But this past month I had decided I just had enough. So I was doing some thinking. Where to go from here.
Our FB page has so much history on it. It’s hard for me to let go. I back up the page every few months so all the photos and videos are saved but the posts, the journaling is not savable. Well, FB has it. I don’t know if they will sell it to me. But it’s certainly up for sale to someone http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-43546100
Last week I announced I had a surprise for you for my birthday. I spent the weekend thinking about what I was going to do. And I figured it out. First. I’m going to focus more on the blog. I had taken my pages down over the weekend but I will put them back up for the giveaways this week. I don’t know if I will keep it up or not but I will be mainly posting on Instagram and our website here. I’ll be giving away some items on my Instagram and on our website here.
Having 47,000+ people following our FB page is great but the interaction is not what I had envisioned. I understand there will be critics but I am tired of the distraction and I want to focus on different things than being on the defense. I also don’t like the new FB algorithms and the way pages are nearly forced to pay to post.
I’ll post the weekly journal as oppose to the random posts on FB. We will keep the group pages up for daily discussions. My Instagram account is my personal account so while it’s mostly BLH stuff, I do post things that I wouldn’t normally post on the Facebook page.
We do have a Twitter account that I don’t use. It’s just been fed off of the FB page. I have no desire to learn Twitter either. I’ve looked into some of the other social media sites and at this time I have no interest to learn those either. Because to be honest, it takes a bit to learn and get use to new formats. I’m going to familiarize myself more with this blog format, WordPress powered by GoDaddy. I knew how to use Blogger well and when I moved here I just did the basics and didn’t learn much.
I understand we may lose a lot of followers, but that was never the goal. Most of those who follow our page only did so because of the events of 2015 and many only had limited interest. I think for us to move forward one thing we need to do is separate those who want to follow our blog from those who are just looking for gossip. If you plan to follow the blog be sure to subscribe to the blog to get email updates.
